Thermasoft self heating gloves and socks vs parrafin dip

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

A lot of people compare Thermasoft self heating gloves and socks to parrafin.

If you’ve never had a parrafin treatment in a salon before, here’s a couple of short videos to show you what it looks like.

The foot video is demonstrating what not to do, parrafin baths should never be carried around a salon it it very dangerous. The whole procedure just looks really wrong!!

When I teach my beginners the procedure, I only teach them to do it on clean hands, we never dip feet in, yuck, too sweaty and it could encourage tinea between the toes.

Parrafin must be left on all of the time in the salon, otherwise it goes solid, if you switch it off, you need to wait 3-4 hours to get it liquid and ready to use again. Really inconvenient in salons.

Parrafin is candle wax therefore flammable if near spark or flame, some salons have even told us that they have been forced to add an extra clause in their insurance to cover them for the dangerous aspect of using a
parrafin bath.

Parrafin is switched on all of the time at body temperature, approx 37 degrees.
Parrafin is petroluem oil based so 37 degrees and oil are the absolute perfect way to breed bacteria rapidly.

When you dip a hand or foot it you can only hope there is no bacteria in there. No one really knows.
How many other clients germs are floating around in that hot wax?Imagine if the tech has just cut off all of your cuticles before dipping your hand in! Or what if they had warts on their hands too!

Most parrafin baths never get cleaned out, they are topped up regulary by adding another “block” of solid parafin to melt in.

This week, we have had some of our customers, Nail techs and salon owners here in Victoria comment that clients are not going ahead with Parrafin, they are opting for basic manis & pedis without the dip, they are worried about swine flu concerns, quite frankly I would too.

Winter time should increase the revenue of heat therapy in salons, not decrease the demand.

Have I put you off getting it done yet??? There’s more….

Our NSW distributor of Thermasoft told us that recently in NSW the health dept has enforced that dipping in parrafin is no longer allowed, what NSW salons must now do is, using a ladle, scoop some wax into a plastic bag, put the hand in and then push the wax around to cover the hand.
One therapist I spoke to recently said she did it once and the bag broke and made a terrible mess, candle wax stuck to everything.

Another method is using a big brush to dip and paint it on, which is not a great alternative, because if the brush touches the clients skin, it must be cleaned before you can dip back in the wax.

One last alternative is to use a spray on parrifin cartridge, every single person that has tried this method hates it, it’s really messy, tiny dots of candle wax stuck to everything!

Thermasoft is not the same as parrafin, it is simple, hygenic, and more effective.

So as you can see, a good argument to use Thermasoft as a single us SAFE and HYGENIC alternative.
