Creatives New Edge is proudly owned and operated by Christine Maher, an expert in Nail Enhancement technology and Natural Nail Care for the last 20 years.
Her enthusiasm began with "party plan" nail product sales in 1987 which then led to her pioneering the "Acrylic nail" in her home town of Ballarat, opening it's first salon in 1988. She built up a very successful business in a short time, training new staff members one-by-one as the demand required, ending up with 4 full time Acrylic nail specialists within 3 years! After one more year, Christine's thirst for knowledge and travel got the better of her selling the salon in Ballarat to travel and learn. The next 5 years were spent working with other salon owners and attending workshops, trying different techniques, methods and styles.
In 1997, Christine Got her first "Real" teaching job at WMIT (Now called Victoria University) in Melbourne and the passion for educating blossomed. During her employment at WMIT she also studied at Ballarat University to become a qualified Cert IV workplace trainer and assessor.
In 2000, she went to the infamous "Boot Camp" held by Creative Nail Design in New Zealand and graduated at the top of the class with overall highest scores in; Product knowledge, Nail Application skills and Presentation skills. After boot camp, Christine began teaching "Master technicians" around Melbourne and country Victoria, both in their salons and at various distribution outlets.
After receiving the 2002 Creative Nail Design "Educator encouragement award", and then the following year the 2003 "Educator of the year award", she became a much sought after educator, with many schools offering part-time teaching positions within their beauty colleges. At one point, Christine was working part-time as a contract educator at 5 different private schools and tafe providers!!!!
Fed up with heaps of running around doing part time work, and no prospects of stable full time offerings on the table, Christine decided it's time to settle down and open her own school, opening Creative's New Edge in Nov 2003. With such extensive product knowledge under her belt, it made sense to distribute the products as well.
In the last 4 years since opening Creative's New Edge she's also managed to fit in winning the alternative nail art awards competition, a trip to Germany to attend the Education launch of the Creative Nail Design Brisa Gel system, and won last years Gel nail competition using Brisa at the Melbourne Beauty Expo. Christine's most recent award came in May 2006 at Team Creative roadshow, recognising her excellence in teaching beginner programs over the previous 12 months. Her latest venture in October 2006, is to move on to importing and distributing Entity beauty products from the USA to Australia.
For Christine, it's a pleasure to share her knowledge and enthusiasm with everyone she teaches, her patience and dedication makes a great combination when dealing with students one-on-one. Some students have travelled up to 5 hours to attend her classes, with an incredibly large percentage of her graduated students obtaining employment in a salon straight after finishing their course.
In Christine's own words: " I love to see others achieve so much from their hard work and perserverence, It makes me very proud to have past students end up in a new career that they can enjoy as much as I do"
